2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #73 - Lost Souls Cemetery by Autumn Lane Stitchery

It's definitely time for Halloween stitching, right? And this will be my first Autumn Lane Stitchery chart. They're generally pretty big and I had been somewhat avoiding starting one since it's a lot of stitching. However, it is only a few colours, so.... it shouldn't take that long! :)

I found some nice fabric that seems to fit the fabric they used pretty well. I managed to get a full thread length and a bit into this one, so it's well started.

This is a paper pattern, and it's not as large as the Primitive Hare ones, but it is clear, and again, not many colours means not too many symbols to keep track of. I don't think I have much frogging to do on this one, although the bat needs a little TLC to make it look a bit better. That will happen when it comes out again.

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #72 - Mother of the Ocean by The Primitive Hare

Another Primitive Hare today, and another nice chart. I'm fairly happy to stitch these despite not being electronic since they are pretty large and the instructions are clear. I love this one, so fun with the whale and I decided on a different fabric to sort of tie in both ocean and sky. The chart looks like this:

 And I didn't get much of a start, all black so far as well. The whale is a few different grays, some of them WDW, so I'm debating on if I'll do that or not. For now I stuck with DMC 310.

This will be a fun one, and really not too much stitching, most of which is block stitching, so once I get back to it hopefully it will stitch up quickly. I just need to decided on the WDW or not and go from there. There might be another specialty thread in this one as well, so we'll wait till it comes out again to decide what to do. For now, it's back in the banker's box again!

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #71 - Harriet Tubman by The Primitive Hare

Time for another start with only a few colours. So, remember, this won't take as long because there's less colour changes. :)

Of course, there's still a lot of stitching to do! 

I think this is my first Primitive Hare chart. It won't be the last, there's another one coming up next in a similar style. So far I'm happy with the chart, even though it's paper and generally I'd prefer Pattern Keeper if possible. It's very big though, A4 I think, so it's easy to see all of the symbols. 

I managed a couple days of stitching on this one and 3 different colours of brown. There's several still to go though!

In case you're not familiar with Harriet Tubman and her important work with the Underground Railroad to help slaves fleeing from the US, there's more info here on Wikipedia. 

I'll be glad to get back to this one and get it framed and up on the wall somewhere. Possibly at work so more people can see it? We'll see. The finish will need to come first.

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #70 - Haunted Library by Lola Crow

Of course charts can't travel alone, even when they're purchased online, so I had to pick up another couple charts from the Lola Crow site. If you like gothic style, there's a lot of options. I went with this one:

I didn't see this one during the SAL, but it is very fun. Lots of nods to different authors and gothic tropes, etc. It's going to be another massive project, but it does go into Pattern Keeper, so that helps. With her charts, because of the backstitch you have to use their legacy import instead of the newer one.

I found some fun fabric for this one and stitched over a couple days to get about 500 stitches in:

This is going to be another epic stitch with lots of colours, etc. I think this is a good start to get it placed well on the fabric and it will come out again at some point. 

For next year, I've been looking at how Flosstubers use their wheels to select projects and I might do that. Possibly a wheel for unfinished SAL, which I'd add this one to since it was a SAL, another wheel for full coverage, and then a wheel for the rest? Possibly just 3 projects in a week to work on as much as I can, with a goal for the full coverage of at least 1000 stitches. 

Anyway, that's still some time away, but I've been considering how to get everything worked on since I'll have a lot of new WIPs now. Suggestions always welcome!

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #69 - Museum After Midnight SAL by Lola Crow

Okay, I caved. I've seen a few Flosstubers stitching this one and I decided I needed to get it after I saw the dimetrodon! My favourite early dinosaur! Here's what it looks like so far, it's not quite complete. 

I've been disappointed by some SALs in the past, but this one is looking better and better, so I'm hopeful and love enough of it that I will finish it at some point. 

I managed about 600 stitches into this one so far:

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #68 - Delivering Tricks by Country Spirit Collection

I really don't remember where I picked this chart up. It could be from one of the LNS's that closed in Vermont, or it could be from a destash. It's definitely a fun one though:

And the first, and possibly only chart I'll be stitching by this designer. It may be the only one I have. It is a paper chart, but is well marked and easy to stitch from. 

I had taken this with me while I was on a small vacation at my parents, but didn't actually get any stitching done there. So this was started just last night. I debated a bit on colours, etc., but then decided to just put a full thread length of black into it. Here's what it looks like now:

The chart calls for Weeks Dye Works threads, so I might pull out some of them for some parts of it, but haven't yet. The black is technically supposed to be Onyx, but I think if I use DMC 310 and try some specialty threads for the rest, that will help those threads stand out a bit better. That's my idea at least. 

It will be good to get back to this one. Probably just a few days of stitching would see it completed, so that would be fun. I'm going to have a lot of these kind next year I think. "just a few days", but those will add up!

July 2026 Stitching Update

It was a busy month, lots going on and not a lot of time for stitching other than the daily starts. However, I did get 2 small projects that had been lingering for years finished off. 

I believe the last time I touched this project was in January 2016, which means it's been lingering over 10 years!! Here's what it looked like then:

This was part of my 2015 Crazy January Challenge and it's nice to have it finally complete! The towel had yellowed a bit, unsurprisingly, so I let the whole project sit in the wool wash I use for socks and knits and it came out very well. 

The next project was also from that same Crazy January Challenge in 2015 and I managed to complete it as well. I had left it here when I got fed up with stitching on afghan fabric:

Day 4 Dragonlet by Dragon Dreams

It was nice to see this one completed and finish another afghan one. I'm debating about the sixth one. I still don't love it, but then the entire row would be complete, and that would be a nice accomplishment. 

They're smallish as well, so even though they're a pain to stitch, at least they don't take too long. We'll see how the rest of the year goes and how I feel. 

I did start a new pair of ankle socks, but haven't taken a photo, plus another dishcloth mostly finished. I'll add those to next month when they're actually completed.

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #67 - The Gores by Sonova Stitch

This one is a little different. I've had at least one Sonova Stitch pattern on here this year, but this is a special one! 

You can order a custom design from Sonova Stitch for the sprites with whatever name you choose and what sprites you'd like. One year for Halloween, I dressed as Mario, DH as Luigi and DD as Toadette. That made this a perfect idea for a stitch! I'm looking forward to having this on the wall. 

I can't find the photo of the 3 of us together, so you get me (and Max) with DH.

It's not a big start, but it is a decent one. I had planned to make Toad into Toadette, but not sure if DD will still want that. I'll check with them first before stitching in the colours. I have room to add Toadette's braids behind if needed.

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #66 - Summer Bliss by Cottage Garden Samplings

This might be the last of these patterns for this year of starts! I can't remember if I have any more of the birds, but I do have some of the animals. 

My mom and Grandma both love orioles, and Grandma had this great peony bush near her walkway at her house. This is another one that has some good memories attached, so I'm looking forward to getting back to this one as well.

I really like how this has stitched up so far. It's fun to get to the words first, that's a change from the other designs. Also getting some of the bird started is fun as well. 

I'm looking forward to getting back to these next year. I think I'll try and finish one at a time, because a few of the WDW threads are shared between patterns. The gold colour in this one only uses that colour for the fill in the letter B, otherwise it's not used any more, but it's in at least one of the other patterns I've started.

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #65 - In Another City by Lindy Stitches

Today's start is a very fun design. It definitely fits a lot of people I know. I'm going to change up the colours a bit, maybe make it rainbow? 

I used the other bit of fabric that has the blue dots on it in hopes that this pattern will cover the spots. They're fairly light, so I don't think it will detract from the eventual finish.

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #64 - Have Courage by Cottage Garden Samplings

Another familiar pattern for most of you probably, back to Cottage Garden Samplings bird patterns! This is one of the more striking birds that will show up at the feeders in my parents backyard, the rose-breasted grosbeak. My grandma also used to grow beautiful gladiolas, so it's fun to have these two things together in this chart. 

I did manage to get two threadlengths into this one as well, and I feel like that's a decent start for these. There's so much stitching, but not too many colour changes, so you can get decent progress

I had a fat quarter of this fabric, but half of it had dye spots, so I'm thinking I can use that part on a different chart that has more coverage. I think I picked this up in a destash, so I don't remember where it came from. This piece didn't seem to have any of the dye spots, but does have a nice area of green coming in on the right, so it should fit this chart well. 

The next start will be a different designer, but I might have another Cottage Garden one after that. I think I have enough threads that they're all separated out, but possibly not, so I might need to borrow from one project to another. 

They're very fun to work on, and I can see why they became so popular. Now that I've stitched a couple, I understand. I wasn't sure on the art style initially. I have a few of the next series, the woodland animals, so not sure if they'll come out this year or not. We'll see how we go.

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #63 - Promise of Spring by Cottage Garden Samplings

My Weeks Dye Works order from 123 Stitch came in, so it was time to start another one of the Cottage Garden Samplings birds. If you want to see another stitcher working on it, Stitching Noni has put some stitches in hers recently. She mostly shows her progress on her FlossTube. 

I'm still sticking with birds that appear in my parents back garden/yard, and this is a common one:

I managed to put 2 full thread lengths of 2 different colours into this over the past few days. As always, stitching time can be hard to come by, but I'm happy with this start:

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #62 - Day 5 Dragonlet by Dragon Dreams

After making Day 3 for Clare, I decided to dig out my old 12 Days of Dragonlets project and started and finished Day 5. I still don't love working on afghan fabric and I'm definitely done for a while again, but it was nice to get another day completed.

This is a very cute one, and the pattern calls for some Kreinik in the rings, but because I'm using blending filament for the dragon, I decided to keep it simple with DMC as well. 

I'm not sure if I'll pull this out again for Day 6 for another of my 100 starts this year, but it's a possibility. How the afghan works there's a section on the top of the main panel and I'm stitching the first 6 across the top, then the last six will be across the bottom. I don't think I've touched this in over 5 years though, so definitely nice to get some work on it. 

There's a kind of sneak-peek for the end of the month summary too. Day 4 wasn't complete until a few days ago, so that's another finish for this year, but it had been started years ago, so doesn't count for a new start this year. 

I still love how fun these are, but still don't love my fabric choice. However, it will be really cool when it's complete. Some day!

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #61 - Day 3 Dragonlet by Dragon Dreams

Time for some deja vu! I stitched this pattern way back in 2016 and had planned to stitch all 12 for one of the Crazy January Challenges. I had this idea to stitch them on afghan fabric and turns out I didn't enjoy that much at the time. However, Clare from Aimetu's is working on some 12 Days of Christmas trees this year, and I thought I'd try and get one stitched up for her. So far this one is my favourite, so I thought I'd stitch it up again.

This was a fun one, I managed to stitch it up this evening and it was pretty quick. I'm debating about picking up the afghan to work on the other patterns. Maybe just to see if I can get a few of them done despite the fabric. It's one of those UFOs that I'm still a little annoyed about, so it might feel nice to get some of it accomplished!

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #60 - Bigfoot Bunch by Plum Street Samplers

I was searching my blog and I think this is the first Plum Street Sampler design I've stitched! That seems odd since she has so many fun patterns, but I suppose the more primitive style isn't my favourite in general, so maybe I just haven't been inspired to start one until now. 

This one is really, really fun. I have a person in mind to gift it too when it's complete, so hopefully that will happen some day. 

This is part of her "stacks" style series and some of them are so creative. This has been my favourite though, so we'll start here. I even bought the CC colours on 123stitch for this one. I debated, but decided I hadn't had to buy anything yet this year for all of these starts, so why not go for it? 

I had a decent start after 2 days of stitching as well:

Bigfoot Bunch by Plum Street Samplers

There's an interesting aspect to this one, which I'm not sure is visible in the chart photo. You have to stitch some of the Bigfoot faces one over one. The little bigfoot baby on the right side is all one over one. That will be a bit tricky when I get there. There's a separate chart for those parts, plus different faces for the larger sasquatch in the central area. 

I chose this fabric because it reminded me of an X-files episode where Mulder and Scully seemed to have found evidence of Bigfoot/Sasquatch that had such good camouflage they would disappear in the forest. The colours will still stand out enough, but the background reminded me of the ending of that episode.

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #59 - Mini Among the Cherry Blossoms by Kirstin Mills and HAED

If you've been following me for a while, you may have seen other charts by this artist that I've started, Mini Winter Magic and Mini Autumn's Promise. Both are still unfinished and Mini Winter Magic has a decent amount, so that might be in the plans for next year. 

Autumn's Promise is barely started, so not even worth showing a photo of that one. Today's new start will look something like this eventually:

My plan on this one and Autumn's Promise was to not stitch the background and only stitch the actual dragon and tree branch. We'll see how it goes. I was able to block it off in Pattern Keeper, so I think it could work well. And my very small start:

June 2026 Stitching/Crafting Update

Things have been a little busy life-wise, but there is still stitching and knitting happening! In fact, there's been a knitting finish. 

Cold Snap by Angeline Webb

I realize I gave no perspective on this one, but it's a little over a meter long. There's a buttonhole so you can sew on a button and use it as a shawl instead of a scarf. I haven't done that yet, since I think my Mom would like it if I could use one of her mother's button collection for it. It's a late birthday present for Mom, her birthday was in June, but I didn't finish it in time. 

I also managed a couple dishcloths. I'm still keeping to my "finish one project, make a dishcloth" idea since I have so much dishcloth yarn to use up. It's an easy gift, and I managed to get two out of the leftover red yarn I had, and passed those on to friends.

I have some ideas for my next knitting project, but haven't started anything new yet. There's a few WIPs hanging around that I've worked on, one is a sock tube, so it just needs more and more knitting until the tube is complete. I think I'd like to get my swift and winder out to make a cake instead of winding my yarn my hand. Sometimes I'm too impatient or not at home, so I have to wind it myself because I don't want to wait. But the yarn twists less in a cake, so it is a good idea to take the time.

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #58 - Tails by Makibird

And the last video game sprite is Sonic's friend, sidekick, companion Tails! So called because he has 2 tails and can kind of hover like a helicopter. I hadn't played any of the newer games with Tails, only the original Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis. DD has played some though, and watched the TV shows. I think Shadow is her favourite character, but possibly Tails is a close second.

This one I made more mistakes than the other 2 combined. I also "finished" 3 colours, since I was stitching all of one colour before switching to the next, etc. and had to go back and put in extra stitches for 3 of the colours. But it's a fun finish and although it can take a bit to see the character, if you follow the darker outline, you can make him out. 

After all the colour changes I might be up for some more monochrome, but I'll have to see what calls to me. I'm at the point where a lot of the charts I've pulled are fine, I'd like to start them, but they don't have the same pull that some of the early starts did. It's possible I'm up for a smaller full coverage project, we'll see how the workday treats me, etc.

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #57 - Sonic the Hedgehog by Makibird

If you weren't familiar with yesterday's video game sprite, then maybe today you'll know this one? It's a more common character and tends to show up in lots of places, movies, TV shows and Nintendo video games, despite this being a Sega character originally. 

Without further ado, this is Sonic:

I mixed up one of the blue colours in this one, but I don't think it mattered, so I didn't change it out. The two colours were very similar shades. Again, no need for backstitch with the colour changes, so it turned out pretty well I think, despite my error in the colours. The shoes in particular I like since you can kind of see how the back leg is lifted and the front leg is planted for him to go run or roll off at high speeds.

2026 Year of 100 Starts: Start #56 - Shadow by Makibird

After that large-ish start last time, I felt the need for a few smaller projects, so I pulled out some sprite patterns I've had for ages. I don't believe these are still available, at least the website didn't seem to exist any more. 

If any of you have or do play video games, these next few days should be familiar. First up in my list is Shadow:

There's a fair bit of colours in these to give them definition without the backstitch, and they're fairly quick. I think each one took me 2 nights of stitching time. I believe this is the only one I stitched without any frogging.
