Top 10 Tuesdays: Top 10 Misheard Song Lyrics

Today's Top 10 Tuesday topic is much more lighthearted, misheard song lyrics!

I'll post some that I've misheard and some that I've heard others say and check out Kate's and Keeble's blogs for their choices too. I hope we can add some humour to your day today.

TOP 10 MISHEARD SONG LYRICS

Anyone know that there's a word for a misheard lyric? It's "mondegreen". From Wikitionary.com:
mondegreen ‎(plural mondegreens)
  1. A form of error arising from mishearing a spoken or sung phrase
  2. (rare) A misunderstanding of a written or spoken phrase as a result of multiple definitions.

1. Pour Some Sugar on Me - Bon Jovi

- awesome, good times yeah

2. Big Ol' Jet Airliner - Steve Miller Band

- Bingo Jed had a light on

3. Informer - Snow

- "dirty bum bum down" instead of "licky boom boom down"

4. Clint Eastwood - Gorillaz

- "I've got sunshine in my brain" instead of "I got sunshine in a bag"

5. Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks

- "wide window"- totally I swear that's what she's saying and not "White winged dove"

6. 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover - Paul Simon

- "you don't have to be corduroy" instead of "you don't have to be coy, Roy"

7. 19-2000 - Gorillaz

- "hey dirty bum" instead of "They do the bump"

8. Flagpole Sitta - Harvey Danger

- "Who still looks, but no one ever does" instead of "who salutes, but no one ever does"

9. Losing My Religion - R.E.M.

- "Let's pee in the corner, let's pee in the spotlight" instead of "That's me in the corner, that's me in the spotlight".

10. Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival

- "There's a bathroom on the right" instead of "There's a bad moon on the rise"

Some are mine, some are my Mom's, and some are from an online site. I'll never tell which are mine, except Edge of Seventeen, I only recently found out how wrongly I was mishearing those lyrics.

I hope the list gave you a laugh! What are your favourite mondegreens?

  1. Granted, I only know a couple of songs on your list, but I've never heard those lyrics interpreted that way! How funny!

  2. Love these!
My personal one was the song The Lord of The Dance with the line "I am the Lord of the Dance said he" which I always heard as "dance settee" and I imagined them all bouncing on a big sofa!
