Olympics Wrap-Up and Paralympics Plans

I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the Olympics if they were interested! Seemed like a great games overall, lots of interesting achievements by athletes and great competition.

I managed to get quite a few WIPs out, so here we go! (there's quite a few again)

Crossed Wing Collection was a good place to start and we last saw Hummingbird Garden here:
and after one night, there's a decent amount of fill:
Hummingbird Garden by Crossed Wing Collection
stitched 2 over 2 as charted on 28ct Largesse by Chromatic Alchemy

The next one is part of the same chart collection:
and I managed quite a bit of this colour:
Thistle Stop by Crossed Wing Collection
stitched 2 over 2 as charted on a scrap of Cumulus? by Chromatic Alchemy

Then a fun Lizzie Kate one that I'm using stash threads on. It used to be here:
and now:
Normal is Just a Setting on the Washer by Lizzie Kate
stitched 2 over 2 with stash threads

Next up another one with words, also a start from 2021:
The second photo doesn't show the fabric well, but it does show the update:
Warm Winter Wishes by Waxing Moon Designs
stitched 2 over 2 on 28ct Cumailitis by Chromatic Alchemy
with stash threads, DD Down Under Blues so far

Another 2021 start coming up:
and now:
Noel by Bent Creek
stitched on 28ct Chromatic Alchemy fabric scrap
with WDW Fathom and Blue Bonnet, odd Dinky Dyes for orange and the grey is Silks4U PR026, DMC Etoile

Another one with words! Here's where it was:
and now:
Moon and Back by Heart in Hand
stitched 2 over 2 on 28ct linen with Gloriana threads mostly

And now a rare Satsuma Street was here:
and now a bit more:
Happy Halloween by Satsuma Street
stitched 2 over 2 as charted
on 20ct Fiddler's aida?

This next one is sort of finished, but I decided to try and add a semblance of our actual house:
And the garage is almost complete! Haven't decided if I'll sketch in a driveway or not, but the house will be below the letters.

Everyone Brings Joy by Waxing Moon Designs
stitched 2 over 1 on 14ct Aida I think with stash threads

Next up was a more Herculean effort, I picked up a full coverage, 1x1 project and worked on it for about 500 stitches (3 days). It started here:
and here it is now:
Peacock Infinity Feather by CrossStitch4Everyone
stitched 1 over 1 full cross on 28ct Amethyst Spirit by Chromatic Alchemy

And that's it for Olympics stitching! No finishes, but quite a few projects had progress, which feels pretty good. Next up is the Paralympics and I think I'd like to try and finish Do Not Meddle during that. I'm quite far along and it just needs a push!

I hope everyone has been feeling well, and having good stitching days.

Happy Stitching,

2021 Tokyo Olympics Stitching Challenge Start #12

Day 12 of the Olympics and Elle got through to the semi-finals! Also 2 Canadian runners that happen to be sisters as well. So it will be exciting to see the semi-finals take place tomorrow.

For today's Olympic sport, I chose one I've also attempted, and it was even in the Ancient Olympics. Any guesses? It's the javelin toss or spear throw. I assume they used actual spears in the Ancient times. They did a distance event in the Ancient Olympics, and a targeted event. In today's modern Olympics it's a distance event only. The javelin throw has evolved over time to first have no run-up, like you would while hunting maybe? I assume you'd be lying in wait for prey and have no chance to sort of wind up your throw. Now you can take an unlimited run up to the line.

When I competed in high school, I could throw farther without the run-up. I think I got confused on the technique because they taught us a way of crossing over your feet and I ended up with a much farther standing throw than with the run. Theoretically, you should be able to get more distance with the run because of your momentum. I think I maybe hit 20m or so (60 feetish) on my best day. Now the best results for men and women are well over 70m. It was a fun sport, and I hope there's options for DD to try out different track and field events in high school as well. My school was fairly big for an Ontario school, so we had a lot of different equipment for different events.

On to today's start, which I can't think of any way to work into javelin throwing like I managed to shoe horn the 1500m. :)

Eventually it will look something like this:
and my start, about 350 stitches:
Warm Winter Wishes by Waxing Moon Designs
stitched 2 over 2 on 28ct Cumailitis by Chromatic Alchemy
with stash threads, DD Down Under Blues so far

The chart calls for a lot of variegated threads, and I'm sure I can find some in my stash to work for most of the colours. I've seen this stitched a few times and it's very cute. I hope to maybe get this one done for winter as well.

I hope you're all staying healthy!

Happy Stitching,

Gifted Gorgeousness 2020 - May Edition

It's a little past the 15th of the month now... but the fantabulous host Jo gives us till the end of the month, so I have a little time yet. I finally remembered and had time to post today. I hope you've all had a good month despite what is going on in the world. Stitch Maynia started for some, and I'm still working on the new start binge.

Time to talk about what's been gifted and what we're stitching on for gifts, etc. I've had a couple finishes since last time, so here we go:

Love You to the Moon - for DD
 by Waxing Moon Designs
stitched with the CC threads and fabric requested (I hated the fabric)
see more here

Letters from Nora - H - for DD

Letters from Nora S and H
stitched 2 over 2 as charted with CC threads and Kreinik
on 28ct Nuriel's Forest by Chromatic Alchemy

This is an ongoing project for DD. I have 2 letters completely finished except for the beads. There's one more to go! I started this way too long ago and would like to get it finished this year if possible. S was finished last year.

Wine a Bit - for a friend
 by Sue Hillis
stitched 1 over 1 on 28ct scrap white evenweave

A friend had her 50th bday during this pandemic. The plan was originally that their family was going to Paris, France. She's fairly disappointed, so I made her this card and bought her a bottle of Veuve Cliquot to commiserate.

Mini Faery Tales - for DD

stitched 2 over 1 on 18ct beige Aida as charted

I've hit over 8K stitches on this one now, so that's a pretty big step. I was originally thinking I'd hit 20K by now... ha! I'm still happy with the progress and will keep going.

Princess and the Dragon - for DD
stitched 1 over 1 (310) on 28ct Amarinthine by Chromatic Alchemy

This is on Pattern Keeper as well now and it tells me I'm over 60% complete! That's very impressive and I think this year might be out, but maybe a goal of 75% is possible?

I hope you've all had good stitchy days and weeks and please check out everyone else's posts over at Jo's blog

Happy Stitching!

Spring Into Summer New Start Binge #3 - Love You to the Moon

The craziness continues this week with another new start from both Rachel and myself. If you caught last week, she started a really cute bird chart and this week is another one, so please check out her post as well.

This week I chose to start another small one, Love You to the Moon by Waxing Moon Designs:
This was another one I purchased from a stitcher destashing, the same one that had the Whispered by the Wind charts (In the Gloaming) and it also came already kitted up:
PTP 28ct Cashel Crystal Mirage
CC Snips and Snails, Crushed Pineapple, Pixie Dust and Hydrangea

Although this fabric is absolutely gorgeous, it was awful to work on. Because it was so dark, and linen, it was impossible to tell where the holes were. I ended up off half a stitch several times, and frogged a few sections of this. I ended up having to stitch basically holding it up straight with my Ott light behind it so I could see the holes. This was a much more awkward stitching position than usual, and I decided to persevere and finish this as I was unlikely to "feel" like taking it out again. Also, it was 3 strands over 2 threads, and I don't know if that made it more unwieldy as well?

So it is done!
Love You to the Moon by Waxing Moon Designs
stitched 3 over 2 on 28ct Cashel linen Mirage by PTP
as charted with CC Snips and Snail, Crushed Pineapple, Pixie Dust and Hydrangea

I received quite a large piece of this fabric and I'm deciding if I will give it away or see if I can come up with a better way of stitching on it. It is so pretty. But may not be worth it to try and stitch on it again. I definitely prefer evenweave and aida to linen.

Other Spring into Summer WIP Progress:

I managed to almost finish one full page (of 2) on In the Gloaming before putting it away. I really do like the new combo I tried.
In the Gloaming by Whispered by the Wind
stitched 2 over 2 on 28ct evenweave PTP Mirage
with DMC 167, 738, 3823, and 3866 changed from the original colours

The moon and birds are as charted, although I added one strand of PTB 04 to the darker grey (168?) to give the moon a little shine. Rachel's idea, and I loved it! We're also thinking of using 3799 Etoile on the gate. I don't have any, so will order some to be ready for the next time I get this one out.

I hope you all had a good stitchy week!

Happy Stitching,

Late June/July Update

I could have sworn I had a post in July about June stitching, but clearly not. So here are 2 months in one! I will say I had less stitching ...
