Stitch Maynia 2021 Start #7

Today I have another smallish pattern with yet another variegated thread. It's been nice going through some of my thread stash and pulling out ones I hadn't used in a while. Someone in a stitching group asked me how I stitch with variegated thread, and I thought the first few projects I worked on this month are a good demonstration. 

For the first flower, I specifically chose what colours would go where in the larger flower to give it an alternating appearance:

For today's project, I'm fussily using one colour for the shamrock area and sort of trying block stitching with the rest of the variegated thread:

I hope I have enough thread left on this one. I will likely use up the rest of it to finish. I like the look of it and it's a fun design. I hope it turns out well in the end. Again, I'd like to add a length or two every day to get it finished. That's 3 in a row now? I doubt it will happen. 

Back to variegated thread, when I have a lot of stitching to do, I try and stitch in 2x2 blocks, so I stitch 2 stitches in a row, then the next 2 on top of it, then the 2 beside the first 2 stitches, and the next 2 on top of those and work across or up, however the pattern demands. I think you can tell that most easily on my Butterfly project. 

How about you? Do you have a favourite way of stitching with variegated thread? I should add that I didn't think of the 2x2 method, Mel Hicks that used to do the Cross Stitch Review website mentioned it in a post. I loved the look of it vs. the striping you can get if you just go all the way across.

Stitch Maynia 2021 Start #6

Hello again! When I pulled all the projects for this month, I thought I noticed a theme, but I realized you can't really tell from the first few projects I chose. This one and the next few might start to give it away. 

I chose a lot of projects that were printed out from designs that were available online. I've stitched a lot from this designer, Kincavel Krosses. This is her Christmas Assisi sampler and just click on the link to get to the pattern.

I really liked the idea of how the variegated thread would work for this one, but every time I use CC I remember why I don't like them as much as most other variegated threads. I find these ones knot on me a lot more than others. No idea why. It's potentially worse with a single strand than double and I'm using a single strand for this one. 

This is another one I'd like to get in a few more thread lengths before the end of the month and try for a finish, but I don't know if that will happen if I keep adding projects onto that list! This is 2 in a row already.

Stitch Maynia Start #5

Day 5 means a slightly larger start, although still not a great big project. Sometimes I pretend to be reasonable with these challenges. :) 

Eventually it will look something like this:

And after a few hours of work, 632 stitches precisely, it looks like this:

I'm debating about trying to get 100 stitches into it a day, or a thread length to make sure it doesn't linger much past May. It's easy enough with the variegated thread, not much finagling to do, so I'll see how it goes with the future projects as well. 

Tomorrow is another project that's a little smaller than this one, but larger than the flowers. I don't know if a same day finish will be possible on that one either.

Stitch Maynia 2021 Start #4

Here we are at the last of the smaller patterns and possibly the last finish for Maynia this year. We'll see how it turns out. I had picked out several options, and whittled them down, but I might change my mind again.

And now I've finished all 4 of these designs. I'll likely have something a little more ambitious for tomorrow.

Stitch Maynia 2021 Start #3

Today isn't a work day, so I'm able to get up a post once the home school day is complete. It's been a pretty easy year for us with DD, she's in early grades yet and knows her math and can read 200 page books already, so we're not too worried about her being behind if she goes back to school next fall. She would like to since she misses seeing other friends. :)  I'm sure it's nothing to do with being sick of our company for the last year!

I managed to finish off another flower last night from the same series.

I forgot to label this thread, so I'm not 100% sure, but I think I used it for one of my owls a few years ago. I'll try and look back to see if I can find where I used it. It has a nice fall look, so I might send it to my SIL if I manage to get it made into a card in time. 

And that's another night finished. I liked the look of this one with all the backstitch and how the colours came together. I had debated on doubling the thread for the cross stitches, but I think the thinner look is nice on this one.

Stitch Maynia 2021 Start #2

Here we are, a little later than I planned, but still posting on May 2nd. I worked on this one last night, but a busy work day meant I haven't had a chance to post until now. 

I worked on another of the little flower patterns. Maybe tomorrow I can look up who the designer is and what magazine they're from.

Stitch Maynia 2021, Start #1

This year will be the last for Stitch Maynia and the Facebook group will be closing after the end of May. Many people decided to do a full 31 new starts for this momentous occasion in the stitching world, and I'm going to try and do my best. I won't get a chance to post in the evenings since that's my usual stitching time, so instead I will work ahead and post the next day about what I started the previous evening. 

I decided to start sensibly with some smalls that I hope I can finish the same day and will be made into cards most likely. I couldn't find all the info on this one, but it's from one of the magazines and I printed out just the page from my zinio reader and couldn't find the designer info on this page. 

My first start and finish:

I found this scrap of fabric and I think I can fit all 4 of the flower patterns on here. I will try and find out which magazine this came from and who the designer is as well when I can. This was a fun little design, about 300 stitches total if you could the backstitch as half. I did work with the variegated thread a little fussily to get an alternating pattern on the large flower, the butterfly similar, and alternating centers on the little flowers.
