30 Day Challenges Day 20 - WIP Wednesday - 10 UFOs

I'd like to show how far along I've gotten with K:

She's a fun, easy stitch and I'm looking forward to moving the Q-snaps. I've stitched everything in this section and it only needs beads now. Moving up I'll finish the "K" and her face and wings and the outline. That shouldn't take too long. Eventually she'll look like this:

Today's post is about 10 projects that I've somewhat lost interest in and am hoping that posting about them will make me realize why I started them in the first place and decide if they're worth finishing.

10 UFOs

1. Basset design

I selected this one off ebay many years ago, before I realized other designers had websites and so many more charts. I lost interest since it wasn't a terribly exciting pattern to stitch and I got bored with all the brown. I may or may not pick it up again. I haven't tossed it or anything, it's still sitting somewhere in the WIP pile. I think it was maybe too pixel-y as it was stitching up and I'd like a smoother flow to an animal design.

 2. Dimensions ornaments

I was really excited when I found these ornaments because my mother had this desire to have a pink Xmas tree and I was thinking "perfect, now I have at least one gift for 6 years running". However, the year I stitched the first one we had an enormous fight and I lost interest in every stitching anything for her again. That's still somewhat the case although I see her often. I haven't really forgiven her, even though I know that's the healthy thing to do.

They do stitch up nicely though:
and I have 2 more partially started.

3. Wolf latch hook

This one suffers from neglect because it was supposed to be a surprise for DH, but I haven't had a chance to work on it in a few years. It's really large as you can maybe tell by my cat on part of it in the top photo. I can only work on it when he's not around, but since that's usually when I'm on DD duty, there's no time. Maybe next year I can get it out if I can remember where I've hidden it.

4. Tree of Stitches by Abi Gurden

I left off this one when I moved and lost track of where everything got to. Naturally the threads, fabric and pattern didn't stay together like they should have. I have recently found everything and I would like to finish this off and make it into a pillow. I'll add it to my 2016 stitching list.

5. Siberian Forest Freebie by HAED

This was my first ever HAED. I would really like to finish this one because the pattern has a great tiger face. I really didn't know what I was letting myself in for when the first 10x10 square had about 93 different colours in it!! I started figuring out parking, etc. and getting the hang of things better, so I'm looking forward to getting back to it and finishing it sometime.

6. Confetti of Hardanger by Abi Gurden

Now that I've tried hardanger in a very minor way I'd like to attempt to finish this piece. There is a no cut version and I'm debating about stitching it that way instead of the cut version. I was thinking time-wise it might be faster. Mrs. Milkybar Kid recently finished up hers, and it looks amazing, so that is making me more interested in getting this out again. Plus now there's so many amazing threads out there to try. I started with #5 DMC variations I think on crow linen.

7. AAN Halloween Town

Unfortunately this one is going to stay a UFO for a long while. I'm not that interested in it at all. I'll show DD when she's a little older and see if she's interested in me finishing it. It's fun and everything, but I wasn't that thrilled with the conclusion of the design.

8. Dimensions In Harmony kit

This also suffers from neglect because it's another surprise for DH that I have to hide from him, and so haven't finished. I started it back in 2009 I think. His 40th birthday is December 2016, so maybe I can finish something for him then. He doesn't necessarily pay attention to what I'm stitching, so it's possible. Plus now that our family numbers 3, this has added meaning. Okay, this goes on next year's list!

9. Mini Winter Magic by HAED

I received this one as a gift and I would love to work on it some more. Again, maybe I can add it to next year's list. I think I'll have to re-grid then, and I'll use the pens that Keebles recommends. They have a finer point and that would be easier on this 28ct Monaco.

Here's the finished design:

10. Skitzzzz fractal

When I chose this design I didn't realize how intense the stitching was going to be. Now that I've worked on an HAED it's not too bad, but it's still a little more than I anticipated. I think the faded grid lines are part of the issue as well. I'll try and use my new pens to make the lines clearer and that might help. Still, this is one that will sit on the back burner until I progress on some others. I don't feel a burning need to finish this one.

How about you? Do you have a pile of UFOs that you've lost interest in for one reason or another? Or are you one of the rare stitchers that finish what you start? ;) Let me know and happy stitching,

Tiffstitch

  1. I have two...A Summer Ball and the Disney 35th Anniversary Celebration (which is kind of mute now that Disney World is 46). I really hate working on both of these and therefore rarely ever touch them but once or twice a year. Neither one would take more than a month to finish, but UGH! I used to always do one project at a time, but with the start of these two, I've kind of gone WIP happy. I prefer HAEDs to kits and since I've only done JBG's HAEDs, I feel like I have to do at least one of hers although I have a lot in my stash that aren't hers.

Funnily enough, Summer Ball is gridded with the same sort of pen you used first...it's why I started using the new ones because those pens (even though they "claim" they are fine point) are practically useless on 28ct.

    1. They definitely are. I'm looking forward to trying out the new ones now and that's making me more interested to get back to some of these, so thank you!

  3. Very pretty pieces. I hope some of them make the "to finish" cut list. I have a lot of WIPs floating around; how soon do they become UFOs? I do know of one UFO, a line of cats that I just lost interest in. It could be the fabric, too.

    1. I think it's more how you think of it, although if it's been a couple years since it's been touched I'm sure it's safe to call it a UFO.

  4. Yes you must finish ToS AND CoH (mine isn't quite finished yet, still one more part to go ;))! I am quite a saintly stitcher where UFOs are concerned as I have none 😇!

    1. Yes, that would be nice. I have been ruthless and tossed a couple I knew I would never work on again.

Catch-up Post and Mischievous March

Hello again, things conspired so I didn't get a chance to put a post up, but I have been stitching. I also remembered to pick up my Misc...
